Burano is famous for rows upon rows of brightly multicoloured houses that line its canals and streets. The popular and romanticized story behind the rainbow spread of houses is that the neon colours helped fishermen find their way back home to their families in the fog; in reality, the system dates back to when the island was undergoing massive development. If someone wanted to paint their house, they had to send a request to the local government which would then let them know what colours were permitted for that lot of houses.
Surely you have seen the Vitaleta Chapel in a postcard but in Val d’Orcia you have the opportunity to literally enter a postcard. This small church with its cypress trees is one of the symbolic places of the Val d’Orcia. A magical place where you can breathe quiet and serenity. It is located between Pienza and San Quirico d’Orcia along the Provincial Road 146 of Chianciano but to reach it you have to walk a bit.
The beautiful hilltop town of Assisi is best known as the birthplace of Saint Francis of Assisi, the patron saint of animals and the environment. The Basilica di San Francesco, built in St Francis’ honor between 1228 and 1253, is one of Assisi’s must-visit sights and a UNESCO World Heritage Site that remains an important Christian pilgrimage site today. Sights like the perfectly preserved Temple of Minerva built by Romans in the 1st century are testament to Assisi’s respect for its rich history, while the beautiful Mount Subasio Regional Park is a haven for nature lovers.
Cefalù is a medieval town in northern Sicily with little modernity. One can visit the La Rocca, a famous cliff which used to be a fortress. The coast of Cefaly is surrounded by relaxing sandy beaches while the Piazza Del Duomo is line with cafes and restaurants. Cathedrals are also scattered around the town and some of them home to the artworks of Christ in Western.
Just 40 kilometres northeast from Milan, set into the foothills of the Alps, is the charming city of Bergamo, one of the prettiest cities in Italy.
The Amalfi Coast is a stretch of coastline in the south Italy’s Sorrentine Peninsula, in the Campania region. The area stretches from Salerno to Positano and It is included in UNESCO’s world heritage sites. Stunning views of steep mountain cliffs, rocky seashore, multicolored towns and lush forests are breathtaking. This peaceful and picturesque setting, with a beautiful mild climate and wonderfully diverse nature is a favorite vacation destination for tourists and celebrities.
With its cultural, artistic and environmental heritage, Spello is classed as one of the most beautiful villages in Italy. When you step foot in this stunning town, you are transported back through medieval times. Get ready to cast your eyes on weathered terracotta roof tiles, cobbled pathways and flower pots adorning most houses! Referred to as the ‘capital of flowers’, every year between May and June, the streets are lined with a carpet of colours for the Flower Festival of Corpus Christi.
Arcidosso is an attractive and ancient Tuscan town located at the foot of Monte Amiata, about 100 km south of Florence, 35 km northeast of Grosseto and near the town of Montalcino.
One of the tiniest of Italy’s Cinque Terre, Manarola is a rainbow of brightly colored homes piled one on top of another above the indigo Ligurian Sea. Perched precariously on a rocky promontory and surrounded by steep terraced vineyards, the seaside village looks straight out of an old Italian movie, with postcard-perfect sights at every turn.
